What Carrboro Residents Gain from PHP with Housing
treatment in north carolina
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a treatment option designed for individuals who need more support than outpatient therapy alone can provide. PHP delivers many of the same benefits found in inpatient treatment—such as consistent therapy, group support, and relapse prevention—without requiring a residential commitment. FAR’s PHP includes 5-day-a-week treatment sessions, with each day dedicated to evidence-based therapy, individual and group counseling, education on substance use disorders, and the development of essential life skills. To further support our PHP clients, FAR offers optional supportive housing. This housing is not residential treatment; instead, it’s a safe, sober living environment for individuals who may not have a stable place to stay during treatment. It provides the space needed to focus on recovery, surrounded by peers who share the same goal—lasting change. Supportive housing gives Carrboro residents access to a structure that promotes healing, with the flexibility to build the skills they’ll need to succeed in long-term recovery.
Outpatient Services That Encourage Real-World Healing
Outpatient Services
Not every journey begins at the same place. For individuals who are either stepping down from PHP or starting their treatment journey in a less intensive setting, FAR offers outpatient care that balances clinical support with real-life engagement.
Clients can continue living at home or in a supportive environment while attending therapy several days per week. This model is ideal for Carrboro clients who need to maintain their daily responsibilities while continuing to work on their recovery.
Our outpatient programs include:
- Individual therapy with trained clinicians
- Group counseling focused on peer connection and accountability
- Relapse prevention education and skills development
- Trauma-informed care and mental health services for dual diagnosis
Outpatient treatment at FAR provides the continued care necessary to reinforce long-term recovery while allowing clients to apply what they learn in real-time.
Dual Diagnosis Services for Co-Occurring Mental Health Needs
Dual Diagnosis
Addiction is rarely an isolated issue. Many individuals struggling with substance use also experience mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD. These co-occurring conditions require integrated care, not just parallel tracks of treatment. FAR’s clinical team is experienced in dual diagnosis treatment, a model that addresses both substance use and mental health symptoms together. This holistic approach ensures that individuals receive the care they need for all the challenges they face, because treating one issue without the other often leads to relapse or stagnation.
For Carrboro residents who feel overwhelmed by overlapping issues, dual diagnosis services offer clarity, healing, and direction.
Stability Without Isolation: A Better Path Than Inpatient Care
While residential treatment has traditionally been considered the gold standard for addiction recovery, it’s not always accessible—or even appropriate—for everyone. Carrboro clients who seek a structured program without the isolating effect of inpatient care can find a powerful alternative through FAR’s PHP with housing and outpatient offerings. FAR’s model provides structure, accountability, and routine, while allowing individuals to stay connected to their support systems and daily life. This approach promotes independence and real-world skill development while ensuring access to licensed professionals and recovery resources. We believe recovery should not mean pausing life—it should mean rebuilding it in healthier, more hopeful ways.
A Community-Focused Approach to Healing
Carrboro is a town that values people. At FAR, we share that philosophy by treating each client as an individual, not a diagnosis. Our team takes the time to understand each person’s background, goals, and challenges, then builds a customized treatment plan that supports healing at every level. Clients from Carrboro who come to FAR will find a welcoming environment where they can focus on recovery without judgment. Every element of our programming, from group therapy to housing support, is designed to nurture lasting, meaningful progress.
Family Support to Strengthen Long-Term Recovery
Addiction often affects more than just the individual, it can ripple across families, causing confusion, anger, and heartbreak. At FAR, we help bridge those gaps through family support services, including therapy, education, and communication tools that promote healthy reconnection. Carrboro families who want to support their loved one in recovery will gain knowledge, skills, and insight into addiction and healing. When families grow together, they become stronger, and that strength can make a crucial difference in long-term success.
Planning for Life After Treatment
Recovery is a lifelong journey, and leaving a structured treatment program can feel daunting. At FAR, we prepare our clients for what comes next from the beginning. Each treatment plan includes personalized aftercare planning, designed to extend support well beyond discharge.
Aftercare might include ongoing outpatient therapy, community support groups, peer recovery mentoring, or referrals to additional local resources. We work with each Carrboro client to make sure they feel confident and connected as they continue their recovery outside of FAR. Our support doesn’t end when the program ends, it grows into a foundation for a healthier future.

What is the Next Step After Detox?
drug rehab options
After you have completed detox, you will be evaluated for a mental health disorder. The purpose of this is to make sure that you are getting the best possible treatment for your addiction. If you do not have a mental health disorder, you will be able to go straight into drug abuse treatment. If you do have a mental health disorder, you will first need to receive treatment for that before you can begin drug abuse treatment.
An addiction treatment program will be the next step after detox is completed. This is where you will learn how to live a life without substances. You will also be taught how to deal with triggers and cravings. Treatment usually lasts between 30 and 120 days. During this time, you will participate in individual and group therapy. You may also have family therapy. Your length in addiction will depend on the treatment program you enroll in and what your recommendation dictates. Two programs that you may enroll in for addiction treatment could include a partial hospitalization program or an intensive outpatient program.
