Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) at Focused Addiction Recovery in North Carolina

Overcoming addiction is a journey that requires comprehensive and personalized care. At Focused Addiction Recovery (FAR), we recognize the importance of using all available tools to support recovery, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Our MAT program in North Carolina offers individuals struggling with substance abuse a scientifically proven method to aid their path to recovery.

What is

Medication-Assisted Treatment?

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach to treating substance abuse disorders and is an especially common treatment for opioid addiction. MAT combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.

At FAR, we understand that addiction is a complex disease, and a successful treatment plan must address all aspects of an individual’s health: physical, psychological, and emotional. That’s why our MAT program is part of a larger, holistic approach to treatment.

What Can

Someone Expect in the MAT Program?

The MAT program at FAR is a structured, comprehensive approach to addiction treatment. Each client is assessed individually to determine if MAT is an appropriate part of their treatment plan. If MAT is deemed appropriate, it will be combined with other forms of therapy to create a multi-dimensional recovery plan.

Medication Management: The key component of MAT is the use of medications to help manage withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and restore balance to the brain. The specific medication used will depend on the individual’s needs and the nature of their addiction. Our team of medical professionals monitors the use of these medications closely to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Individual Therapy: Each client will have regular one-on-one sessions with a therapist. These sessions provide a safe space for individuals to discuss their experiences with addiction, the challenges they face in recovery, and their goals for the future. (One on One is an additional cost. Programs are primarily delivered by groups.)

Group Therapy: Sharing experiences and struggles with others who are facing similar issues can be profoundly therapeutic. Group therapy sessions foster a sense of community and mutual support among clients.

What Therapies are Available in the MAT Program?

At FAR, we believe that a holistic approach to treatment is the most effective way to promote long-term recovery. The MAT program includes a variety of therapies tailored to the individual’s needs.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a core method of addiction treatment. It helps clients identify negative thought patterns that lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as substance abuse and equips them with skills to replace these thoughts with healthier alternatives.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Dialectical behavior therapy is a structured program of psychotherapy with a strong educational component designed to provide skills for managing intense emotions and negotiating social relationships.

Person-Centered Therapy (PCT): operates on the humanistic belief that the client is inherently driven toward and has the capacity for growth and self-actualization.

Support Groups: Support groups provide an informal setting for clients to discuss their experiences with addiction. These groups can serve as a long-term community of support, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual understanding that extends beyond the program.

Family Therapy: Substance abuse does not only affect the individual but also their family and loved ones. Family therapy aims to mend relationships damaged by addiction and teach family members how to support their loved ones in their recovery journey.

Holistic Therapies: FAR recognizes that recovery is a whole-person process. As such, we offer holistic therapies such as art classes and exercise programs to help clients develop new interests and stress-relief mechanisms, further supporting their recovery.
